Everything You Need To Know About Acuvue Contact Lenses

Everything You Need To Know About Acuvue Contact Lenses

When the first contact lens was invented in 1888 by Adolf E. Fick and Edouard Kalt, a glass shield covered the entire front surface of the eye. Although the application was crude and plagued with many issues, the idea spurred the creation of a product that revolutionised the eyewear industry.

Since then, each year has seen breakthroughs in contact lens technology emerge, and of all the organisations within the industry, one company stands out for sitting at the bleeding edge of contact lens technology - developing and releasing new products all in an effort to make contact lenses comfortable and a delight to use.

They transformed the industry by developing the world’s first soft disposable contact lens, and they continue to be guided by a mission to make vision care accessible and affordable. That company is Acuvue.

Technologies in Acuvue Contact Lenses

Acuvue’s catalogue of contact lenses spans a variety of options to address multiple visual impairments including shortsightedness, farsightedness, astigmatism and presbyopia. An emphasis on continuously pushing the envelope has led to the creation of several technologies which are now found in their products. These advancements allow millions of their customers to enjoy enhanced vision, comfort, freedom and performance.

Some of the advanced technologies developed include Lacreon, Hydraclear Plus, HydraLuxe.

Lacreon technology involves the use of a water-ingredient similar to what is found in natural tears. The ingredient is embedded into etafilcon A - a material typically used for daily disposable contact lenses. The technology is mainly used to help wearers feel comfortable throughout the day.

Hydraclear Plus is similar to Lacreon technology in that it uses a wetting agent that reduces dryness by mimicking the eyes own tear film to keep them hydrated and moist. This is achieved by binding unique silicone polymers and long-chain water-loving molecules into the lens formula.

Hydraluxe technology, meanwhile, consists of two main components: a wetting agent, and a specially designed material infused with the wetting agent. Together they merge to form a tear-infused material to hydrate the eye and reduce friction by allowing the wetting agent to be released throughout the course of the day.

With that said, here is a list of contact lenses released by Acuvue.

These contact lenses are designed for people with nearsightedness, however, plano options with no visual correction are available for those looking to up their cosmetic appeal.

4 designs are available for this 1-day contact lens: Fresh Rose, Fresh Honey, Fresh Blue and Fresh Gazel.

1-Day Acuvue Define

1-Day Acuvue Define - Vision Direct Club

The hallmark of cosmetic accents is defined by how well a product emphasises existing beauty. In this respect, 1-Day Acuvue Define takes a page out of the same design spirit that gave birth to its sister contact lens variant, 1-Day Acuvue Define Fresh.

Translucent layers to accentuate eye beauty are present, but more than that, Acuvue embeds Lacreon Technology for exceptional comfort, doubles it with another of its signature technologies, Beauty Wrapped in Comfort to safely enclose pigments in the lens, and tops with the highest UV protection available in a contact lens. This, if nothing, makes it the perfect blend of beauty and comfort.

Speaking of comfort, 1-day Acuvue Define is a daily disposable lens and is unfortunately only available for people with nearsightedness. Nonetheless, plano options are available for people who don’t need vision correction.

With this lens, 7 designs are available: Accent Style, Vivid Style, Natural Shine, Radiant Bright, Radiant Charm, Radiant Sweet and Radiant Chic.

Acuvue Vita

Acuvue Vita - Vision Direct Club

If daily or bi-weekly contact lenses are not your cup of tea, then turn your eyes towards Acuvue Vita, because as a monthly contact lens go, this series from Acuvue packs some serious features. For starters, this lens has options for near sight and far sight visual correction which is a plus. But what makes it special is the Hydramax technology incorporated which is useful for maintaining lens hydration all month long.

According to Acuvue, on average, the rate of evaporation for Acuvue Vita is 33% less than other monthly lenses. This is, of course, compared to other leading monthly reusable lens brands.

So the result is a lens that you can confidently use without worrying too much about the usual discomfort experienced in the 4th week of monthly contact lenses.

You will also find here the highest UV protection available for a contact lens which is definitely appreciated.

1-Day Acuvue Moist

1-Day Acuvue Moist - Vision Direct Club

In a daily contact lens, the last thing you expect to feel is dryness and irritation which is common to poorly designed contact lenses. 1-Day Acuvue Moist performs exceptionally in maintaining consistent hydration thanks to the inclusion of Lacreon technology.

According to Lacreon, the water-holding technology found in Lacreon is capable of providing a cushion of moisture for up to 20 hours. This will be beneficial to people who struggle with dry eyes.

For this series, you’ll find visual correction options for nearsightedness and farsightedness. Top-level UV protection is also available if that is something you are concerned about.

1-Day Acuvue Moist for Multifocal

1-Day Acuvue Moist for Multifocal - Vision Direct Club

One of the things we love about Acuvue is inclusiveness. We have echoed this throughout the article and nothing cements this more than 1-Day Acuvue Moist for Multifocal. The lens is designed to correct both near, intermediate and far visual problems in dim light as well as in bright light.

Comfort and excellent visual acuity are to be expected thanks to the addition of Lacreon technology, but the crowning achievement - in our books - is the integration of Acuvue’s INTUISIGHT™ technology which is essentially an innovative optical design that aligns with the presbyopic pupil size as it changes across visual ranges. UV protection is also included as part of the overall design of the contact lens.
